Studying the Bible
As Christians, we must spend time daily studying God’s Word, which is the Bible, so that we may find the strength we need to overcome the challenges that today’s life presents us, and lead a life that is pleasing to God.
As we spend time in His Word and find the strength to please Him, then He blesses us with everything we need daily. When Joshua became the leader of the children of Israel, God had commended him to spend time day and night with His Word. In Joshua 1:8 we read: This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein, for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
So what happened to Joshua? Because he obeyed God he became very successful as a leader. The Lord was with him and had provided protection, guidance and literally fought their wars for them and they captured all the Promised Land. And that was a major achievement. It was a miracle.
In 2 Timothy 3:16 the apostle Paul said: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
In today’s life, I see that our children face far greater challenges then we ever did back then. There is so much influence from TV and so much more peer pressure to succumb to doing bad things. And that of course it means that it is difficult to be a parent.
So reading the Bible at home is more important then ever. We all need God’s hand to strengthen us and guide us in our life in order that we succeed as parents and be able to help our children grow with God’s Word.
